As we count down to Stampede’s first pair of regular season ice hockey games, at the Queenstown Ice Arena this Friday and Saturday, league MVP, Liam Stewart, former Ice Black captain Bert Haines, and resort born-and-bred goaltender Aston Brookes are returning to a potent line-up. Brookes will once again be setting up shop in front of goal, bolstering already strong resources in that position in the form of Matt Swirtz and Joel Hasselman. The 27-year-old Ice Black returned to the resort with his partner in December after three years on Australia’s Central Coast, between Sydney and Newcastle, where he played for the Sydney Bears for two seasons before having a handful of games for the Newcastle Northstars in last year’s severely Covid-disrupted season. ....
Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has outlined his plans to turn the club s women s program into a powerhouse with Jillaroos star Botille Vette-Welsh set to be the face of their big ambitions. The joint venture entered the Harvey Norman NSW Premiership in 2019 and have been consistent performers in the competition, led by Vette-Welsh and Kiwi Ferns playmaker Raecene McGregor. Converting the current HNWP team into an NRLW side is the next step for the club with Vette-Welsh and McGregor among the priority retention targets, if they were to gain a licence. Hagipantelis said 2023 was shaping up as the most realistic timeframe for when they d be ready to go but he would be guided by the ARL Commission on when the competition expanded. ....

The 28-year-old, born and raised in Gisborne, allegedly was asked to leave the infamous Cronulla pub around 9pm (local time) before she became aggressive to staff. She allegedly assaulted two security guards outside the venue before police were called to the premises. She allegedly had to be restrained until police arrived. “About 9pm yesterday (Friday 2 April 2021), officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command were called to a licensed premise on Elouera Road, Cronulla, following reports of an alleged assault,” a police statement read. ....
