MINGORA: Journalist community here on Sunday criticised government institutions for not providing grant to Swat Press Club for the last four years.
The clubâs general council meeting, presided over by the Swat Press Club president Mahboob Ali, criticised the provincial government for not providing grant and facilities to the press club.
âWe condemn in the strongest possible words the government move to pressure media houses to expel the journalist having critical narrative against the government. Senior journalist Shahzad Alam was expelled by his media house to appease the information department of the provincial government,â said Mahboob Ali, urging the media house concerned to restore the journalist to continue his journalistic work. ....

Swat Press Club de-sealed on PHC orders | Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF)

MINGORA: The Swat Press Club was de-sealed on the orders of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Mingora Bench here on Thursday.
A division bench of the PHC Mingora bench comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Waqar Ahmad ordered the district administration to de-seal the club.
Aurangzeb Khan Advocate represented the Swat Press Club management while Assistant Commissioner Shazaeb Naqvi appeared on behalf of the district administration.
The bench issued a short order to de-seal the club, saying the district administration and information secretary were not authorized to seal the building.
During the remarks, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim said that democracy and free media were interrelated. ....

MINGORA: Senior officials have lauded the role of the Swat journalist community in the restoration of peace in the scenic valley.
Deputy Commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam and District Police Officer (DPO) Qasim Ali Khan said journalists in the Swat had played a role in the peace restoration in this part of the country.
They urged the journalist community to continue the very role for the larger interest of the community as both visited the press club to greet the new office-bearers.
