“I’m hanging on by a shoestring,” said Lisa Boemer, owner of The Hiccup, Inc., a quirky Swampscott gift shop when asked how her fledgling business is faring nearly a year into the pandemic. “It’s day by day.”
To add to her worries, Boemer recently learned that she does not qualify either for the small business loans or small business grants being administered through the Swampscott Community and Economic Development Department  because she opened her shop on Feb. 29, two weeks after the Feb. 15 cut-off date. ....

Swampscott offers COVID-19 relief to small businesses

Struggling small business owners may qualify for financial support through a COVID-19 relief grant program offered and administered by the Swampscott Department of Community and Economic Development.
Massachusetts Department of Housing and Economic Development awarded $120,000 to financially assist not only the Anchor Food Pantry but also the town’s small-businesses community, Swampscott Director of Community and Economic Development Marzie Galazka told the Swampscott Board of Selectmen on Dec. 9.
Galazka submitted a successful grant application for the COVID-19 relief money, CARE Act funding from the federal government to the commonwealth.
“Of these funds, $100,000 will be made available to small businesses – to be able to receive a grant up to $10,000 per small business,” said Galazka. “And again: These are grant funds, so no repayment is due.” ....
