SWaCH Cooperative, on the occasion of
Makar Sankranti, have decided to distribute tilgul to
corporators of
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), many of whom have challenged the monopoly the NGO enjoys in the city’s garbage collection and sought to break this by tendering for the services and allowing competitors to enter the fray. The offer of tilgul is expected to open a dialogue on whether privatisation of waste management can really help the city. But the politicos seem to be in no mood to be sweettalked into extending SWaCH’s contract that expired in December and has been extended for only a month. ....
