Helen Purcell Home receives Grant from Straker Foundation
MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Helen Purcell home was awarded and presented a check today from the J.W. and M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation.
The $41,955 grant will go towards the renovation of the Straker Suite at the Helen Purcell home. The renovations will include a community room, chapel, offices and an additional dining option. in hopes to enhance the lives of the residents living there.
“We think it’s going to be good for the folks that are living here now and the folks that are going to be living here for years to come. We are very thankful for the Straker Foundation,” Helen Purcell Executive Director Vince Durant said. “This room that we’re standing in was the living room for Bill and Mary Hellen Straker for several years and it was our privilege to be able to work with them while they were here. We’re thankful for their generosity to us and the community.” ....

Straker Foundation Approves $1.6 Million in Grants in Muskingum County

members and the community honored J. William Straker at a memorial service on
Saturday, May 1, 2021. That afternoon, the Trustees of the J.W. & M.H.
Straker Charitable Foundation met to approve grant awards totaling almost 1.6
million dollars.
Straker
Trustees are the children and grandchildren of J. William and Mary Helen
Straker, who established the Foundation.
The J.W.
& M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation will announce a smaller competitive
grant cycle for Fall 2021.

CUMBERLAND One of six cheetah cubs born Oct. 31, 2019, at The Wilds has been named for long-time supporter and Zanesville resident J. William Straker.
The cubs have been trailblazers since their arrival, as they are quite a large litter for a first-time mother and are a part of significant conservation efforts to save this vulnerable species, the facility said in a press release.
When Straker died in May 2020, The Wilds’ team searched for a way to honor his memory and the incredible impact he made on The Wilds, on veterans through the facility’s partnership with Mighty Oaks and on the larger community. Working with Susan Holdren, president and executive director of the J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation, The Wilds team welcomed naming a cheetah cub after Straker. ....
