the head scratcher is they ve surrendered on vaccine mandates. i know the courts gave them blueprints to do more narrow ones, but the only tool we have is the vaccination. that is the best tool to keep people out of the hospital. we know this. are they going to regret in six mos when the next surge hits that they sort of backed off of pushing for more vaccine mandates? it s an interesting question, because they will readily tell you that getting more people to willingly take the vaccine is the best answer. and they can cite the emering statistics that creep up ever so slightly with how many americans have at least one shot. we re behind on boosters. people are not accepting the booster as readily as they had hoped. in that narrow area of health care facilities that accept federal dollars, medicaid, ....
People aren t using them, what good are they? i think the challenge we have is taking this optimistic, we have the tools message and putting it to the ground and saying, what really will happen, and that s where i m concerned. i think that most people have given up on the pandemic, unfortunately. the pandemic is not given up on them. the virus is still there. is encouraging people to get their third shot the single most effective public health position we could take now that the president could put forward tomorrow? i mean, getting first and second shots, i feel like you re starting to beat your head against the wall, but the percentage of people who have gotten two shots already and are still needing a third seems to be the widest lane for room to use these tools. i think you re exactly right. and i think it s very important to emphasize time is of the essence. when this particular surge hits, which is going to be in three to eight weeks, i think before we see the real thrust of i ....
The people who they have to care for. and what are you hearing from those healthcare workers? because their frustration is understandable, but you ve been speaking with them. what s the message they re sending? you know, as i said, they re exhausted, almost beyond the telling of it. last winter they got through the worst surge we had seen so far and they thought the worst of the pandemic was behind them. they spent the intervening months doing catchup work on all the surgeries and procedures that were deferred. so they are really bone tired. and then this surge hits out of nowhere. and i think it s really crushing their moral. they see much of america moving past the pandemic and pretending that it s over and they know that it is not. they see people who have not decided to get these incredibly effective vaccines that could have prevented many of the deaths that they are facing. and that is very, very difficult to take. a lot of people who have very ....
The point you bring about your weather you are getting and the folks northeast are geting is the same. there s little rain. a little rain coming in now and then. i have a raincoat on because i would be wet if i didn t. this is a wind thing now. as i stand here on the beach, very little wind. then, suddenly, you will see, bill karins was telling me we are getting gusts at 45 miles an hour and higher. all of a sudden, the wind comes in and starts to push a bit like this. this isn t here yet, it gives a false sense of security about what is going to happen next. when you look at the water and how far it is, it s not anywhere close to high tide. we are going to hit high tide in less than an hour. you can see the seashells and pebbles, this is where the water comes out on high tide. we are an eighth of a mile out from that. we are going to see activity over the course of an hour or so as the surge hits here. ....
