Madam Chief Minister review: Subhash Kapoor s film starring Richa Chadha is a damp squib

Richa Chadha in Madam Chief Minister (2021) | Kangra Talkies/T-Series In Subhash Kapoor’s Madam Chief Minister, Richa Chadha plays a Dalit politician from Uttar Pradesh with short hair and a purposeful, shoulder-forward stride. Any similarity between Chadha’s character Tara and that other short-haired Bahujan Samaj Party leader, who made ground-breaking strides in Dalit politics in the 1990s, is purely coincidental. Madam Chief Minister takes a typically cynical, cliche-ridden view of the importance of electoral victory in changing a community’s fortunes. Dalit assertion and empowerment are footnotes in what is actually a conspiracy thriller revolving around murder and revenge. As a college student, Tara drives a motorbike and prefers androgynous dressing, but her entry into politics and caste consciousness are sparked by rejection in love.

Madam Chief Minister Review 2 5/5 | Madam Chief Minister Movie Review | Madam Chief Minister 2021 Public Review

2.5 Madam Chief Minister Movie Rating Politics is an important component of our society and in recent times, with the advent of social media, it has become popular even among the youth who earlier weren’t that interested. However, the same wasn’t reflected in our films. We have obviously had plenty of films involving politicians but a fictional film revolving around the life of a neta was rare. Most of them which were released recently like THACKERAY [2019], THE ACCIDENTAL PRIME MINISTER [2019] and PM NARENDRA MODI [2019] were biopics. MADAM CHIEF MINISTER, directed by Subhash Kapoor of JOLLY LLB fame, which has released today, fills up this space. It’s not a biopic and serves as a fictional political thriller. The trailer and some of the parallels with the life of ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati have caught some attention. So does MADAM CHIEF MINISTER emerge as an entertaining political fare? Or does it fail to entice? Let’s analyse.
