we begin with sunlen who is outside the supreme court. what are you seeing? reporter: jim, it certainly is a very tense moment right here on the steps of the supreme court. i want to show you the scene playing out now at this moment. i ll take you to the crowd here in the last few minutes we ve seen really this conversation between both sides break out. the police have moved in some barricades, some police fences and they have separated the two sides. over here you have a side who is not in support of friday s supreme court decision and over here pro-life and we have seen them yelling back and forth. i want to just give you a flavor of the crowd at the moment out here on the steps of the supreme court. abort the court. abort the court. reporter: although they are vocal and loud and are certainly taking issue with each other we have seen these protests remain largely peaceful throughout the day, jim. we are seeing this crowd swell in size a couple hundred out here tod
had after their gun decision, after their voting decision, after their union decision. they just took the last of it and set a torch to it with the roe vs. wade opinion. but republicans are claiming a major victory and giving one man the credit. this is a huge victory for the pro-life movement. president trump deserves the lion s share of credit here. he fought like a tiger to put three constitutional conservative judges on the court. and outside the supreme court keeping an eye on the protests for us, what are you seeing today? reporter: jim, it is emotional and at times tense here down at the base of the supreme court. as you can see behind me there is a large crowd that has gathered and it s grown in size over the course of the day. i ll give you just a flavor from the streets as you see a lot of protesters in opposition. the majority of people out here today in opposition of that ruling that came down on friday against roe, but we have seen some tense moments wher
You are live in the cnn newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington. abortion rights across the country are crumbling. days after the supreme court declared there is no constitutional right to an abortion. protesters are gathering outside the supreme court again today while a new cbs poll shows 59% of americans disapprove of the court s decision to overturn roe vs. wade this video from a protest in greenville, south carolina, shows the moment police detained several demonstrators, six people were arrested. a witness telling cnn it all started when counterprotesters leveled misogynistic slurs to women advocate willing for abortion rights. as of today abortion is he canively banned in 11 states, more states with trigger laws are expected to outlaw abortion in the coming days and weeks.
Versus wade. and while the court says it is not the final opinion, across this country, the reaction now to the idea that after 50 years, roe versus wade could be overturned in a matter of weeks. the protests and demonstrations, crowds gathering at the supreme court again today. the leak only heightening concerns that the highest court in the land has become even more politicized. chief justice john roberts, who called the leak an egregious breach, has now tapped the court s marshal to lead the investigation into the leak. and president biden warning again today the landmark decision is about more than abortion, sayi ing of former president trump s movement, quote, maga is the most extreme political organization that s existed in recent american history. if the final ruling does overturn roe, 26 states are ready to ban abortion likely very quickly, including 13 states that have so-called trigger laws that ban it immediately. tonight, we take you to those states ahead of any decision th
