MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Assisting residential development, including at the Fruitport Golf Club, is the driving force behind a new tax-capture district aimed at growing one of Muskegon County’s busiest areas.
A tax capture district that includes the Lakes Mall has been approved for an area of Fruitport Township near a planned casino.
A new downtown development authority will take increases in property tax revenues in the district and put them toward $11 million in planned projects. The tax capture is for 20 years.
Cleanup of half-built hotels near West Michigan mall being pursued by township officials
Updated 12:35 PM;
MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Now that it has an enforceable blight ordinance, Fruitport Township is demanding action from the owner of two half-built and deteriorating hotels.
Township Supervisor Todd Dunham said the owner of the hotels, Stellar Hospitality of Auburn Hills, recently was informed it was in violation of the ordinance and given 10 days to reply with its plans for the neighboring hotel structures.
The owner must respond by this week or legal action will be pursued, Dunham told MLive.
“They don’t call me back. They won’t talk to me,” Dunham said.
