File photo by Erin Sanchez SHELBY TOWNSHIP After a one-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shelby Township Downtown Development Authority Independence Day Fireworks are back July 1 at Ford Field Central Park at 7460 23 Mile Road. The fireworks can be viewed throughout the township’s Van Dyke Avenue commercial corridor with the epicenter at 23 Mile Road and Van Dyke. Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis said the fireworks show isn’t one that people would want to miss. ....

The township will be holding an in-person Memorial Day ceremony at 1:30 p.m. May 30 at the Veterans Memorial located just outside the Township Hall at 52700 Van Dyke Ave. Residents, military veterans and families are invited to attend. ....
Shelby Library opening delayed to early 2022 The new Shelby Township Library’s tentative opening date has been pushed back to early 2022. Photo provided by Brad Bates Advertisement SHELBY TOWNSHIP Due to the coronavirus outbreak, many things were put on hold including the new Shelby Township Library’s tentative open date, which has now been pushed back to early 2022. Early estimates for the completion of the new library were planned to be in the spring of 2021. The township announced the revised schedule in April. While delays associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have pushed the date of opening back, the township reported that construction is progressing and the project is still within budget. ....
