Daunte Wright Shooting: Minnesota Officer Meant to Draw Taser, Not Handgun, Police Chief Says – NBC4 Washington


Gannon said at a news conference that the officer made a mistake, and he released body camera footage from the officer who fired. The footage showed three officers around a stopped car. When one of the officers attempts to handcuff Wright, a struggle ensues and Wright can be seen re-entering the driver side of the car. The officer is heard shouting “Taser!” several times before firing her weapon.
It is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their taser but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet, Gannon said Monday.  This was an accidental discharge that resulted in a tragic death of Mr. Wright. ....

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. – A Black man died after being shot by police during a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb, sparking violent protests that lasted into Monday as officers in riot gear clashed with demonstrators and the man’s mother called for calm.
The man was identified by family as 20-year-old Daunte Wright, who died Sunday in a metropolitan area that was already on edge because of the trial of the first of four police officers charged in George Floyd’s death. The judge in that case refused Monday to sequester the jury after a defence attorney argued that the panel could be influenced by the prospect of what might happen as a result of their verdict. ....
