In July, 1996, Nigeria participated in the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States, and won gold in the football tournament. This was considered by many Nigerians as the greatest achievement of the senior national team at the world stage. The football squad, known as the Dream Team, paraded the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi and Victor Ikpeba.
