We need to bring in the traditional working class the traditional lower middle class we cannot assume that newcomers are going to rescue us from having to actually reconcile ourselves to the kind of cultural beliefs and sensibilities the concerns of that constituency I actually believe that the u.s. Left is the very unusual outlier here and if you look over the last 20 years the opinions of folks on the u.s. Left have changed really markedly on these issues I would argue have in some ways grown more extreme and less tolerant of the idea that there is some reason to be concerned about the pace of cultural change that goes beyond racial animus So you know my sense is that if you look at this globally you see a pretty different pattern that it s just the right that stoking this resentment that is not actually rooted in concerns about stability cohesion and much else so you just think that the left is accelerating its expectations of cultural change mean do you have do you have an example
