MelroseWakefield Healthcare awards grants MelroseWakefield Healthcare awards grants MelroseWakefield Healthcare, in collaboration with Shields Surgery Center Medford, is awarding $120,000 in grants to Massachusetts-based programs as part of a Community Health Initiative. The recipients are nonprofit organizations and municipalities with approaches to improve the health of their communities through meaningful and sustainable change. They include Wakefield Board of Health, MetroNorth YMCA, the city of Malden, Boys and Girls Club of Wakefield and Stoneham, and Riverside Community Care. MelroseWakefield Healthcare partnered with Shields Health Care Group and Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization in development of the ambulatory surgery center, and surgeons from seven physician practices will operate there. Cooperative spirit marks Malden Hospital site walk-through Wicked Local In October of 2019, the people and elected leaders of Malden and Medford were surprised by an announcement from Sue Sandberg, the new CEO of Melrose-Wakefield Healthcare (MWH), the owners of the former Malden Hospital, an 18-acre site lying within both cities. As part of their recent affiliation with Tufts Healthcare and their transition to non-profit status, MWH was terminating their longstanding real estate development agreement and would now seek to renew the original purpose of that land as a source of health for both cities. This decision ended several years of conflict between MWH and the Medford/Malden community – and has marked the beginning of a new spirit of cooperation. In August of 2020, the Friends of Fellsmere Heights (FoFH), an organization of Malden/Medford citizens, hosted a walk through the Malden Hospital grounds with the support of MWH. ....
