No arrests made in the murder of a doctor in Unity State Authorities in Unity state have said no arrests have so far been made in the case of the chilling murder of Dr. Louis Edward Saleh Ufew, last Friday. The deceased medic was an employee of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) who said he was found dead in Panyijiar County, South Sudan, last Friday, 21 May, under unclear circumstances. Unity State information minister, Gabriel Hon Makuei, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that no arrests have been made and that they were still carrying out investigations. “It happened in Panyijar in Ganyliel Payam. We got the information that it happened on 21 May that he died in the evening but we have not yet established if he was killed or died alone. As a government, we are still investigating,” Minister Makuei said. ....

This is the second attack on our staff in the last two months.The IRC compound in Jamjang County was attacked on 24th April where up to 20 youth entered the perimeter and physically attacked IRC staff, resulting in multiple injuries. One senior medical staff member was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital in Juba at the time. To date, no arrests related to the Jamjang attack have been made. ....

One senior medical staff member was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital in Juba. Caroline Sekyewa, IRC South Sudan Country Director, said: “We are deeply disturbed by these attacks. Thus far, the perpetrators have not been caught and there has been no accountability for those that have carried out this attack. We urge the local authorities to provide a guarantee of staff security so that we can continue to provide life-saving humanitarian services to host and displaced communities in South Sudan”. ....

South Sudan: UNHCR’s Filippo Grandi visits JRS partnered projects Format On 27th January, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, travelled to South Sudan to visit four Quick Impact Projects (QIP) in Yambio, which were achieved through the collaboration of UNHCR, JRS, and the South Sudanese government. QIPs are aimed at improving the living conditions of those in need of humanitarian aid, like refugees and IDPs living in South Sudan, which is home to Africa s largest refugee and humanitarian crisis. The JRS and UNHCR partnership provided 55 semi-permanent housing (tukul) to returning IDPs with special needs in the Nzara and Yambio counties, a community centre in Bazunga, and the renovation of the Sue and Uze bridges. ....
