Defreezing PoJK seats clarification Sir, This has reference to the article “NO TO DEFREEZING POJK SEATS ” by Sh. S.S. Jamwal in DE , 23rd July, 2021. MJR47 wants to clarify the few misqouted facts in the said article. The basic point he takes for refusing right of POJK DPs to seats in legislative assembly is that “POJK DPs / refugees donot have rights to cast vote in the state assembly elections” . This shows the total ignorance of the author and his premise is factually incorrect. The POJK DPs are as good state subjects as any body else including Mr Jamwal. We DPs have been casting our votes by right in all assembly and local bodies as well as for Parliament seats since1947 all along. In the first go , it seems he has no idea of various catagory of refugees/DPs in the state. One catagory , the largest in number , is that from POJK who were displaced in Oct.1947 from POJK and have all the rights which any other permanent resident of the state has. POJK is an integral ....
Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, July 7: MJR-47, an organization of Displaced Persons of 1947 from PoK, today appealed all the political parties to support the issues of DPs during discussion with visiting Delimitation Commission to J&K. During a meeting of MJR-47 held today to preview the Delimitation Commission meeting being held at Jammu, it was informed that the MJR-47 has been continuously demanding to defreezing at least 8-10 assembly seats out of 24 kept reserved for POJK area voters. A presentation on the issue was made to the Delimitation Commission in Nov 2020 to which the Commission had replied that the request cannot be ceded as it does not fall in it’s purview. Today, a news item in the press had referred to our communication with comments, “We understand that the Commission was right to the fact that it has a limited brief”. ....
