The Supreme Court on Friday said that it is fed up with cut, copy and paste business done in this computer age by the High Courts, which don t apply their independent minds in their orders.
The remarks by a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and M R Shah came while dealing with a plea of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) against the Orissa High Court order upholding a decision of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) asking it to look into the matter of granting IAS cadre to a person.
It restored a disposed of plea before the High Court and said cut, copy and paste of Tribunal s verdict only adds to the volume of pages but does not answer the core issue of appeal . ....

Indian Supreme Court says society must learn to accept inter-caste, inter-faith marriages

NEW DELHI, February 9:
The Supreme Court of India on Monday underscored the right of the adults to choose their life partner, and added that it is time society learns to accept inter-caste and inter-faith marriages without hounding the couples who marry outside their caste or religion.
A Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hrishikesh Roy further noted that it would “hardly be a desirable social exercise” for parents to shun their children only because they decided to marry outside their caste or community.
The judges, in their order, also emphasised the need for specific guidelines and a training module for policemen to deal with such “socially sensitive cases”, so that couples can get due protection available to them under the law should the parents lodge criminal cases against them. ....

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Karnataka High Court judgment of December 4 that directed the State Election Commission to conduct elections to only 198 wards of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) within six weeks.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde issued notice to the Election Commission and the original petitioners in the High Court M. Shivaraju and Abdul Wajid on an appeal filed by the Karnataka government.
The government said the High Court judgment nullified the unanimous will of the State legislature, which is made up of the representatives of the people and which amended the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act of 1976 to increase the number of wards in Bengaluru to 243. The 1976 Act governs the BBMP. ....
