I don t disagree with what s being said, but i think there are other remedies. you talk about student debt. student debt reform should be a major priority. when you look at what s charged for a student loan, 10% in a 2% world when i was in college, i paid 7% when interest rates were 20%. there should be debt renegotiation for sure. they should be able to refinance. there should be some principal forgiveness. we should work on that hold on a second. i m not going to let you get off student debt because i kind of do this for a living, too. when i went to college, you know and i m not going to say when i graduated, but i graduated in the 90s i graduated in the 80s. it was $22,000 a year. our children, our youngest is in college now. it s $64,000 a year. wow. it s more than that. you know, we re blessed to be able to help our child go to college. yes. but if you re talking about student debt, it s not about renegotiating the interest rate people are paying. why in t
Michael steele former spokesman for john boehner. so, we just heard that voter, jada, point out elizabeth warren s proposals. those plans that elizabeth warren rolled out student debt reform, child care and affordable housing. michael steele, we ll start with you. do you think these proposals will help warren break through to specifically black voters? that is what she is hoping. it is hard to have a strategy, historically, where you don t compete seriously in the first two states of iowa and new hampshire. i think what we re looking at here is senator warren has to get past bernie sanders and has to surpass bernie sanders in new hampshire and that will be the sling shot that sends her addressing the policy concerns that many voters have.
Legislation. then there s some sort of battle over them. your argument here seems to be you have a republican house that doesn t even bother, doesn t pass anything. they have a majority. they could pass bills. i don t know what they re doing with their majority because if you put the party stuff aside for a minute, people are clamoring for student debt reform. in a district like mine, people are clamoring to see some movement on comprehensive immigration reform. we ve had all of these issues that there s no reason we can t be getting some progress through, and what we ve seen is a very boastful do-nothing congress that has made it its primary purpose to obstruct president obama and to obstruct and to be proud about it. and whether that s the u.s. senate that s refusing to do confirmations or the u.s. house that s refusing to bring bills up for a vote, america is languishing. congress is doing nothing. and that reality preexisted this particular presidential race, and so while a lot o
