The Berejiklian government has defended its decision to approve the choice of advisers by Santos for its $3 billion Narrabri coal seam gas project, rejecting critics who say their industry links raised doubts about their independence.
As part of the approval conditions for its 850-well project in northern NSW, Santos was required to nominate at least two “independent experts from the scientific community” for its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Advisory Group. They put forward Andrew Garnett, director of University of Queensland’s Centre for Natural Gas, and Stuart Day, a CSIRO researcher. ....

A government contract for a P rehab programme was canned after half a million dollars of taxpayer money was given out. Aaron Smale investigates.
The Ministry of Health spent over half a million dollars on a P Rehab contract before pulling the pin because there were no results or progress reports.
The programme ended up being run by a community trust set up to help the marginalised, including gangs, despite having been pitched as a joint service with the Salvation Army, and announced by former Prime Minister John Key as being funded through that church. ....

Boris Johnson was forced to introduce a new tier, Tier 4, on Saturday night in order to contain a new coronavirus strain that was spreading  significantly more easily among the population.
As a result, those in Tier 4, which includes London, the South East and East of England will no longer be allowed to meet up in Christmas bubbles of up to three households. For those living in Tier 1, 2 and 3 areas, the five-day window has been cut back to just Christmas Day.  ....
