Strumphet Alliance Network advisor Rani Ravudi claims some police officers abuse sex workers while on the street.
Ms. Ravudi who has been a sex worker for 22 years said a high proportion of sex workers have reported suffering abuse by police officers.
Speaking at a Weta Coffee Tuesday Night event Ravudi revealed that some policemen abuse them with impunity because sex workers fear arrest or further abuse for reporting these crimes.
She said it was difficult for sex workers to seek criminal justice as many police officers are partaking in the sexual and violent abuse.
“We face a lot of violence from the police, if the government decriminalised sex work it would mean that there would be lesser police abuse.” ....

Non-profit organisations that provide support for sexual workers struggle to obtain funding from international stakeholders.
Haus of Khameleon director Miki Charlemagne said many non-profit organisations that work with sex workers sometimes do not receive full core funding from their partners.
Ms Charlemagne said many staff who works for these non-profit organisations are not paid as the organisations struggle to obtain funding.
She said in an event the lack of funding disallows these organisations from achieving their goals, and create an awareness programme to sex workers on safe intimacy.
