Vandaag hebben de Commissie en de hoge vertegenwoordiger een nieuwe strategie gepresenteerd om de bijdrage van de EU aan een op regels gebaseerd multilateralisme te versterken. In de gezamenlijke mededeling worden de verwachtingen en ambities van de EU voor het multilaterale stelsel uiteengezet. In het voorstel van vandaag wordt ervoor gepleit alle instrumenten in te zetten waarover de EU beschikt, waaronder haar uitgebreide politieke, diplomatieke en financiële steun voor het bevorderen van wereldwijde vrede en veiligheid en de verdediging van de mensenrechten en het internationaal recht, en multilaterale oplossingen te bevorderen voor mondiale vraagstukken. ....

Commission publishes guidance on key provisions of EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime

Today, the European Commission has published guidance on the implementation of specific provisions of Council Regulation (EU) 2020/1998 concerning serious human rights violations and abuses.
The Guidance Note seeks to address the questions most likely to arise in the implementation of these new sanctions. It includes information about the scope of the financial restrictions therein and their application. It also explains in detail the responsibilities of those who must comply with the Regulation, covering notions such as ownership and control, and the functioning of derogations[1].
