February 10, 2021
Richard Hildner is a member of Acoplados and Grupo Balança.
The reimagined Strollin Middleton from Arts + Literature Laboratory â a series of livestream concerts from venues in the Good Neighbor City â wraps up with sets from two of Madison s most distinctive musicians. Josh Cohen plays solo bass, but like nobody else you ve ever heard. Utilizing an atypical six-string instrument, Cohen has developed a technique of creating a melody line and rhythm parts all on his own. Guitarist Richard Hildner Armacanqui is a Madison native who grew up playing Peruvian music with his family. Since then he has mastered a variety of musical styles, and currently plays in Acoplados, Golpe Tierra and other Madison bands. Find the concert on Facebook or YouTube.

February may be the shortest month of them all, but that doesn’t mean it has to be the least eventful. Mask up or pop online and enjoy Madison’s art, food and festival scenes with these distanced or virtual happenings.
Through the end of the month, folks can stop and smell the orchids at Olbrich Gardens’ Bolz Conservatory. With more than 250 orchids on display, these tropical beauties provide a winter escape. Temperatures range from 65 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit within the conservatory, so you can escape the cold and enjoy the company of the free-flying birds and waterfall. The exhibit is open daily through the end of the month.

In 2014 the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium debuted its Strollin events, in which a series of performances take place on one evening in a group of venues in walking distance. Since then the GMCC has become a part of Arts + Literature Laboratory.and, of course, we have entered an interlude when wandering between concerts is a couch-bound activity. Strollin organizers responded by making the series a virtual one â at
YouTube â with seven Sunday concerts by local jazz musicians recorded at four Middleton venues. This week features a set by
Lo Marie, whose songwriting smoothly mixes soul and jazz, and as a performer is versatile enough to also perform with both the Frank Zappa tribute The Furious Bongos and Orquesta Salsoul del Mad. The series continues on Jan. 3 and 10.
