Cooling centers to be open Thursday around Kern County

(KERO) — With temperatures set to exceed 100 degrees around much of Kern County Thursday, the Kern County Parks Division is opening many of its cooling centers.
Cooling Centersopen in the San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys when the temperatures are forecast to be 105 degrees or higher, in the desert areas when the temperatures are forecast to be 108 degrees or higher, and in Frazier Park when temperatures are forecast to be 95 degrees or higher.
McFarland, Frazier Park, and McFarland centers will be closed. ....

COOLING CENTERS FROM MODESTO TO BAKERSFIELD:
For weekend activation: If the temperature is projected to reach 105 degreeseitherday the cooling centers will be activated for both weekend days (Saturday and Sunday)
The City’s FAX Bus systemwill provide free transportation along normal routes to and from Cooling Centers.
To ride free, residents must indicate they are traveling to a Cooling Center

Non-Forecasted Activation If the forecast is below 105 degrees, City officials will monitor conditions and may call for activation. If it becomes apparent that the daily high will break 105 degrees, or if it has already reached that mark, PARCS will immediately notify the One Call Center, the Webmaster and the FAX Dispatch office. ....
