Six-year-old Jonathan McCoy was agitated and angry. Things weren’t going well at home, and he was lashing out, disrupting his school class with his behavior. A teacher exiled him to the corner to cool. off, but he just started kicking the radiator instead.
That’s when Phyllis Polillio first entered McCoy’s life.
Polillio, a Stoughton Public Schools teacher assistant, took the first-grader aside and talked to him privately, telling him he shouldn’t be taking his frustrations like that.

SNYDER'S STOUGHTON: After two years in charge, School Superintendent John Marcus to leave

Stoughton Superintendent of Schools John Marcus is resigning his position at the end of the school year, he announced at the School Committee meeting April 27.
The former popular principal and teacher sent a letter of resignation, effective on June 30, to School Committee Chair Sandra Groppi, who read it at the meeting.
In the letter, Marcus said that he has been honored to serve the Stoughton Public Schools the past two years, but for personal and family reasons, I will be unable to continue as superintendent for the coming year, and will be seeking other opportunities that afford me the time needed to support my family more effectively. ....
