When money is often a factor in these decisions. thank you so much for coming on. you re welcome. well the outer bands of tropical storm elsa will make an impact across south florida today as the system picks up sfeem. according to the national hurricane center the storm has the potential to restrengthen. it is expected to make landfall in cuba later today. so far the storm has killed at least three people. ams meteorologist chad myers joining us now. how big of a threat to youdy this storm poses to south florida and the rest of the southeast? the southwestern part of the state, jim, a lot more than the southeastern part of the state where surfside is located. but what i want you to notice on this satellite picture is the center of the low right there. there is not much convection on the the west side. it is all on the east side. where is this going to go. it is going on the west side ....
Correspondents, simone boyce in myrtle beach. what have you got for us? reporter: chuck, hurricane dorian has unleashed an unrelenting assault on the citizens here in myrtle beach, south carolina. you can see these massive waves, pounding behind me. the wind, we ve been feeling sustained winds at about 40 miles per hour, and the rain is just stinging us. one bit of good news, though, chuck, we weren t able to stand on this area before, this patch of sand, without being covered about up to our ankles in water. and that s just a reminder of the danger that this storm poses in terms of flooding and storm surge. you can see the sea water pooling here. we re seeing reports of flooding in the city of myrtle beach. could be more than two feet of water at this point. but in addition to that threat ....
We ve already had several inches dumped in a lot of these places, and additional rainfall will come down. not to mention you have storm surge, three to five feet in this red area here and about two to four feet in the orange areas that you can see. and what are the biggest threats right now that the storm poses? right. so the main concern is going to be heavy rain but also severe weather. you have the threat for waterspouts, tornadoes, that s going to be well throughout the overnight hours. folks, please make sure your phones are charged and you have access to emergency alerts in case tornado warnings take place. this is not only going to impact the gulf region but take a look at this map. heavy rain is going to push inland for states like illinois, missouri, arkansas. so even areas well inland are going to end up taking a lot of rainfall from this system over the next couple of days. all right. we ll be following it. thanks so much. appreciate it. remiernd, don t miss full circl ....
