New Superintendent Named For Hickory Public Schools

The Hickory Public Schools Board of Education announced the selection of the district’s new Superintendent during a specially called meeting Tuesday (June 8). The new Superintendent is Dr. Bryan W. Taylor. A native of Mount Airy, Taylor replaces Dr. Robbie Adell, who is retiring after 37 active years with the North Carolina Public Schools.
Assuming his duties later this summer, Dr. Taylor is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Stokes County Schools where he is responsible for district administration and operations. He was also the previous Superintendent of Avery County Schools, where he led the efforts to create a balanced and sustainable budget. Stokes Arts announces scholarship winners

The Stokes County Arts Council is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021 Stokes County Arts Council Scholarships. Graduating high school seniors, as well as students currently in college pursuing a major in an Art-related field, were eligible to apply. Each year, members of the scholarship committee include Arts Council Board Members as well as members of the community.
“The Stokes County Arts Council has been providing quality arts entertainment and programs since 1975, thanks to the generosity of member supporters,” Executive Director Eddy McGee explained during the virtual Arts Extravaganza Celebration.
“April is a special month for our organization because that is the month we celebrate Young Artists of Stokes County including the award winners of our Stokes Arts Scholarships. Spainhour leaving West Stokes High School

Kevin Spainhour has served as principal at West Stokes since 2013. He announced this week that he is leaving to take the principal position at West Forsyth.
KING West Stokes High School Principal Kevin Spainhour told staff and students Wednesday that he was resigning to become principal at West Forsyth in Lewisville.
Spainhour is the current Stokes County Principal of the Year.
In a four-and-a-half minute video for students “present and past,” Spainhour announced his decision with “a heavy heart.”
“I love West Stokes High School,” he said. “I love everything about this community. The faculty that collaborates together and genuinely cares about one another. And oh, the graduates, over 1,500 graduates that I’ve had the pleasure to hand a diploma to.” ....
