Greenhalgh wins Round 1 of the Musto Skiff Corona Cup 2021

Reigning national champion Pete Greenhalgh narrowly won the first round of the Musto Skiff Corona Cup 2021 after an eventful day on the Solent on Saturday 15 May.
A Corona Cup is a bit like an open meeting, except the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions are little more than a hundred words on a shared WhatsApp group, £20 paid online, with two ribs manned by willing volunteers, one crew operating as committee boat and the other as rescue boat. Running the racing last weekend were two dads of two of the leadings lights in the Musto Skiff fleet, Pete s father David Greenhalgh along with Rob Tarboton, father of Andy. Driving the rescue rib were Jo, backed up by the ever-cheery presence of the Royal Navy s own Dave Moyes. ....

Stokes Bay Sailing Club Catamaran Open

Catamaran sailors from various classes are eagerly anticipating the first big catamaran event of the season, which will be at Stokes Bay Sailing Club, in the centre of the south coast. After losing so many events over the past year with the pandemic, there is even more enthusiasm than normal!
Some classes are including the event as part of their TT series and the Sprint 15 looks like being the largest class in terms of numbers. It is a few years since the Sprints last came to Stokes Bay and they will have their own start. At the faster end of the cat sailing spectrum are the Hurricanes who are sure to provide spectacular and fast sailing. ....

Despite a pessimistic forecast, the fleet was released on time for racing to start at midday. The wind, unfortunately however, did not want to play ball, resulting in every wind direction in different areas of the course. After waiting patiently for the wind to stabilise, the race committee decided to send the fleet ashore for a postponement, giving everyone time to find some lunch before racing began. After a short wait, a southerly sea breeze filled in and racing commenced.
The first race was characterised by a long port tack and a wind bend to the left. Tom Morris and Guy Filmore managed to cleanly cross the fleet on port from the bias pin end and demonstrated impressive pace to pull away from the boats around them. Hyde Sails UK to sponsor Musto Skiff GBR event series

Hyde Sails UK is confirmed to sponsor a UK event series with the GBR Musto Skiff Class Association in 2021.
As part of the sponsorship deal, Hyde Sails UK will sponsor six events in the existing 2021 GBR event calendar, which is due to start in mid-April. The overall podium winners at each of the selected events will be eligible for additional prizes. At the close of the 2021 Hyde Sails Series , the sailor holding the most points across the six-events will be awarded with a Hyde Sails spinnaker worth over £700.
The Musto Skiff class has a long history with the global sailmaker. Hyde Sails is the official sails partner for the Ovington built Musto Skiff and has been a continued partner of the international class since it was first established some 20 years ago. ....
