Wear a prosthetic leg, and it was just, like, this freeing feeling. reporter: four years later, she was swimming for the u.s. at the beijing paralympics. this flag that i am so passionate about, looking back, it was what was meant to be. reporter: you wanted to serve the country. uh-huh. reporter: and you were. after beijing, she tackled new challenges motherhood, and the triathlon. i used to think triatheletes were crazy, because it s like, you swim, you bike, and you run, like, all in the same day. like, who wants to do that? reporter: turns out, she did. at the rio paralympics on september 11, 2016, stockwell won a bronze medal. but when she showed it to her then-two-year-old son? i threw it, it hit my prosthetic leg, which then dented my brand-new medal, which i was upset about for all of like 30 seconds, and then i m like, you know what? that adds character. i am so pumped! reporter: in tokyo, stockwell is hoping for a new medal one without a dent u.s.a.! ....
Paralympicsen who knows the grit and sacrifice firsthand. this month, just before she was named to the usa para-triathlon team, melissa stock well was involved in a bike crash. she collided with a tree. here are some of her injuries on screen. she fractured her back and severely bruised her pelvis. stockwell is not just an elite athlete. she is a former army lieutenant, an iraq war vet who lost her leg in a roadside bomb while serving this country. melissa, it is a pleasure to meet you. thank you so much. thanks for having me on. i appreciate it. happy to be here. melissa, you are tough as nails. i mean, but back pain is back pain. how are you coping? you know, two weeks ago, you fractured two of your vertebra and you re still trying to train. how are you? well, there s never really an ideal time to fracture a back. i don t think anyone would ever put that on their schedule. ....
Where women have to make really tough decisions and i think to imply that somehow those decisions are made flippantly or casually is incredibly offensive to the women involved. the case will be heard at the high court today and tomorrow. frankie mccamley, bbc news. three men who were part of a group that became known as the stockwell six have had their convictions for robbing a police officer, nearly 50 years ago, quashed by the court of appeal. paul green and cleveland davidson, pictured here outside the high court, had their convictions overturned, as did courtney harriot. the three were aged between 17 and 20 at the time of the trial in 1972, which was largely based on the evidence of a corrupt detective. the criminal cases review commission is still trying to trace two other members of the group. knowingly arriving in the uk without permission would become a new criminal offence, under legislation to be published later today. ....
