Eric Adams was declared the winner in the race for mayor of New York City on Tuesday after an initial count of in-person, early voting and absentee ballots. The Associated Press made the call after the New York City Board of Elections released the preliminary results of the June 22 Democratic primaries.
Adams, the Brooklyn borough president, maintained a slight lead of more than 8,000 votes over Kathryn Garcia, a former sanitation commissioner, according to an updated tally that included most of the 125,000 absentee ballots that were not included in the first count of the ranked-choice votes announced last week. The 50.5-49.5% margin is well over the half percent threshold that would force a hand recount. ....

Victory is near for the candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump in Staten Island s Republican primary for bureau president.
The third round of unofficial ranked-choice results from the June 22 contest released Tuesday evening, the first including absentee votes, showed Vito Fossella holding a narrow lead with 9,306 votes (50.8%).
That was enough for his closest rival, Steven Matteo, to concede the race after getting 9,016 votes (49.2%).
The Board of Elections released their updated vote count tonight, which included absentee ballots. Unfortunately, while it was extremely close, it has become clear that the lead Vito Fossella has built up with absentee ballots is insurmountable and he will be the Republican nominee for Borough President.
