COLUMBIA, S.C. On of the ways Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving in our state is the annual Walk Like MADD event. Held Saturday, May 1, at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, the event brought together friends and families of those killed or injured by those driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Arrests for driving under the influence in South Carolina were down 14% in 2020 as residents reacted to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions were enacted, including an order that forced bars and restaurants to stop serving alcohol by 11 p.m.
Law enforcement officials declined to speculate.
Data from the South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination, which serves the state s 16 circuit solicitors, shows DUI arrests were generally down in 2020:
► Statewide there were 16,615 DUI in 2020 after 19,354 in 2019.
► At the Greenville County Sheriff s Office there were 315 DUI arrests in 2020 after 345 in 2019.
