Grineski writes about The Spartan Leadership Academy, which supports 15-20 Ben Franklin 8th graders (mentees) with 10-15 Fargo North 11th graders (mentors) for purpose of bridging the transitional gap from middle to high school.

Unaccompanied students are experiencing homelessness, while not in physical custody of a parent or guardian. There are at least 130 such students in the metro area.
"While the Legislature keeps building a bigger haystack, we have children in school suffering from anxiety, mental disorders, hunger, abuse and homelessness," writes Lloyd Omdahl.
