But the report has revealed the second lockdown in Auckland from February 28 significantly impacted the retail sector. Retail NZ chief executive Greg Harford said more than half of all retailers around the country reported a drop in sales over the past month, rising to 70 per cent of respondents with stores in Auckland. Spending numbers for March are not yet available but will have been impacted by the lockdowns. ....

Taranaki Chamber of Commerce chief executive Arun Chaudhari said the Centre City building s multi-storey car park was an option worth following up, but it would need the building owners, AMP Capital, and the New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) to agree. More options included converting other car parks to leased parking, he said. “There is also existing leased parking which is under-utilised and that could be freed up. “Most importantly, we need all the parties to work together.” Central city landlord Kyle Still said the lack of car parking in the CBD caused added issues for landlords leasing office space. ....
