What is the competition format? Two karate disciplines will be featured in Tokyo. Kumite is the sparring discipline and will have three weight classes each for men and women (60 athletes) and Kata is the solo form discipline, and will have one event each for men and women (20 athletes). In both, there are elimination rounds, ranking rounds and medal bouts. Kumite Three weight categories (Men -67kg, -75kg, +75kg / Women -55kg, -61kg, +61kg) Two karatekas face each other, trying to land blows on their opponent over three minutes. Kicks and punches with good form, power and control earn between one (Yuko) and three points (Ippon). ....
