The new year might be the last year of its type for New Jersey drivers, a year without toll increases.
In sports, 2021 would be known as a “bye” year, since the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey increased tolls in 2020 and the Delaware River Port Authority voted not to increase tolls this year.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission also approved a 2021 budget that did not call for a toll increase.
But 2021 may be the last such year since three major toll agencies move to an automatic toll increase process, based on economic indicators. ....

Much of New Jersey is digging out Thursday morning from the first significant snowstorm of the season.
Just don’t forget about clearing snow and ice from vehicles, which is required by a state law that took effect 10 years ago.
It was adopted in response to vehicles and pedestrians being struck by a wintry mix dislodged from fast-moving cars and trucks.
Robert Sinclair, spokesperson for the American Automobile Association, offered an analogy a year ago in explaining the potential hazard.
“If you’ve got a bunch of ice and snow on top of your vehicle, you’ve got a contrail like a jet airliner at high altitude,” Sinclair said. ....
