DANVERS, MA Each day seemed to bring another ominous announcement with profound ramifications.
One year ago on March 11, Gov. Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency amid the onset of the coronavirus health crisis. On March 12, Danvers closed its town buildings. On March 13, school buildings emptied and venues canceled live performances en masse. March 15 brought the directive that all nonessential businesses needed to shut down for three weeks as of 5 a.m. on the morning of March 17. ....

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s office has determined that a Danvers Select Board member violated Open Meeting Law back in August.
Following a complaint lodged by Danvers resident and former selectman Keith Lucy, David Mills was found to have violated Open Meeting Law by impermissibly deliberating via email.
The incident in question took place prior to a public meeting on Sept. 2.
On Aug. 26, Mills sent four individual but identical emails, one to each of his fellow board members, regarding the Thin Blue Line flag issue. At that time, no public meeting of the board was scheduled on the matter. ....

DANVERS, MA The coronavirus case level in Danvers surged sharply once again in the past week, according to state data, as the town entered the state s high risk category for community spread.
Danvers recorded 315 positive cases over the past 14 days, compared to 177 cases in the same span leading up to Dec. 3. The town s cases per 100,000 residents the sole metric the state used until last month to determine whether cities and towns could move forward in reopening jumped from 44.3 cases per 100,000 to 68.27 cases per 100,000. ....
