West Berkshire not Waste Berkshire: Man fined for fly-tipping on Britain s oldest road The incident took place in October 2019 Jonathan Ashby ); A MAN has been fined more than £2,400 after pleading guilty to fly-tipping on the Ridgeway. David James, from Turbary Gardens, Tadley, was prosecuted following an investigation by officers from West Berkshire Council’s waste team. The investigation started following a report and supporting evidence provided by a member of the public in October 2019. There was evidence that Mr James deposited or knowingly caused waste to be fly-tipped on the Ridgeway near Compton, contrary to section 33(1)(a) and section 33(6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. ....

West Berkshire Council has announced plans for a new £10 million solar farm to help in its transition to carbon neutrality by 2030. The farm could be built on land near Grazeley, the council stated, and consist of more than 45,000 solar panels installed over 75 acres of council-owned land. According to the feasibility study, the solar farm could offset around 30% of the council’s carbon footprint, including the estimated footprint of contractors working on its behalf. Funding for the project will be included in the capital strategy and submitted for council approval on 2 March 2021. Councillor Steve Ardagh-Walter, executive member for the environment, said the council was looking to build on its success installing rooftop solar last year. ....
Up to 45,000 solar panels could be installed in West Berkshire (stock image) PLANS to spend £10 million on setting up 45,000 solar panels near Grazeley have been announced. West Berkshire Council says the solar farm will generate enough electricity to power 4,400 homes a year. The council, which is aiming to ensure West Berkshire becomes carbon neutral by 2030, wants to set up the panels on 75 acres of land at Bloomfield Hatch, which it currently owns. If funding and the plans are approved, work on the solar farm could start in 2022. Cllr Steve Ardagh-Walter, executive member for the environment, said: “It could significantly reduce our carbon footprint with any surplus income available to reinvest in other environmental projects. ....
