JOHANNESBURG - The South African State Theatre and Ster-Kinekor Theatres this week announced a collaboration to screen theatre content in selected cinemas across South Africa from June 2021.
The entertainment sector was the hardest hit by COVID-19 lockdown regulations, which affected audience attendance both at cinemas and theatres.

SA State Theatre celebrates new partnership with Ster-Kinekor Theatres

The South African State Theatre has joined forces with one of the countryâs biggest movie exhibitor, Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
The partnership sees some of Mzansiâs leading theatre productions showcasing in selected Ster-Kinekor cinema nationwide, starting from June.
The exact screening dates are yet to be confirmed.
Commenting on the collaboration, SA State Theatreâs artistic director, Aubrey Sekhabi, says: âWhile we are grappling with the pandemic, I believe this collaboration will change the performing arts game in South Africa, particularly that of theatre.
âImportantly, this collaboration gives us hope for the revival and future of theatre.â
