Travis Johnson judicial release hearing postponed

EATON A hearing on a New Paris man’s petition for judicial release was ordered postponed pending notification of the defendant’s alleged victims and their families in Preble County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided.
Travis M. Johnson, 23, was convicted of gross sexual imposition, importuning, and disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile in 2016. According to court records, Johnson was sentenced to six years of incarceration with the Ohio Dept. of Rehabilitation and Corrections at that time. He has currently served approximately four years and four months of that sentence. ....

Bryan Webb, 34, received a further sentence of five years of community control on charges of assault. Webb was further ordered to pay court costs and refrain from contact with the alleged victim in the case. ....

EATON Preble County Common Pleas Court heard several drug-related cases last week. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided.
Clyde W. Miller, 38, of Eaton, was scheduled for sentencing on charges of possession of heroin and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Miller failed to appear for his Jan. 5 hearing, however, resulting in a capias warrant being issued for his arrest.
According to a sentencing memorandum filed by the Preble County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the state suggested community control (probation) in the case, stating that Miller’s criminal history, though indicative of a drug problem, was not extensive enough to warrant incarceration. ....

EATON Preble County Common Pleas Court heard cases involving drugs, burglary, and violating a protection order on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided.
Roy Reid, 29, of Dayton, was sentenced to 45 days of incarceration in the Preble County Jail, with credit for 11 days already served, on charges of possession of a fentanyl-related compound. Additional charges of trafficking and tampering with evidence were dismissed.
According to court documents, Reid’s criminal history includes charges of felonious assault and assault with a deadly weapon in Montgomery County.
Reid was arrested by Camden Police officers in Aug. 2019 during a controlled drug buy set up by the department; he later claimed he’d come to Camden in order to visit the local library. ....

EATON An Illinois man was granted judicial release on drugs and weapons charges in Preble County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Judge Stephen R. Bruns presided.
James J. Weinert, 42, of Watseka, IL, was indicted in Sept. 2019 on charges of aggravated possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, and having weapons while under disability.
According to court documents, Weinert’s prior history includes arrests for burglary, theft, escape, domestic battery and assault in Illinois. A sentencing memorandum filed by the Preble County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office called Weinert a “career criminal,” saying he’d been to prison in his home state no less than four times. ....
