Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam is optimistic the sale of Pope and Talbot’s pulp mill in the town will go through.
On Aug. 21, the courts approved a deal to sell Pope and Talbot’s operation to numbered company 0832498 B.C. Ltd. The sale was arranged by receiver PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is handling the forestry company’s assets during the bankruptcy process.
“I met with them last Friday. They’re committed to purchasing the pulp mill, but there are a number of things they have to do to get it up and running again,” Killam said. “With this, one third of our (forestry) concerns will be up and running again this fall.” ....

Rent in N.B. still among the cheapest in Canada, but it's going up


The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation s annual Rental Market Survey reported the average two-bedroom apartment in New Brunswick cost $892 per month to rent in October 2020, $50 more than one year earlier.
Prices for two-bedroom units ranged from a high of $979 per month in Fredericton to a low of $600 in Edmundston.

Those are both well below the national average price for a two-bedroom unit of $1,125, while rents in several major Canadian markets are substantially more than that.
The average two-bedroom apartment rent was highest in Vancouver ($1,792), Toronto ($1,635), [and] Ottawa ($1,517),  said the report. ....

Moncton tenants face mid-winter move after rent hikes of almost 50%
Tenants in two Moncton apartment complexes are facing rent and utility increases approaching 50 per cent as of March 1, the latest New Brunswick renters to be financially jolted by the sale of their buildings and a change in their landlord.
