Mit dem Verbot von Einwegplastik gehen die Länder der Europäischen Union einen ersten Schritt in Richtung Umweltschutz. Wie die Situation durch Plastikverschmutzung tatsächlich ist, belegen Forscher mit Zahlen. Nach Berechnungen für die Zukunft schlagen sie Alarm.
Die jährliche Plastikverschmutzung von Gewässern und an Land könnte sich nach Forscherangaben von 2016 bis 2025 fast verdoppeln, falls der Mensch so weiter mache wie bisher. Der weltweite Eintrag von Plastik in Seen, Flüsse und Ozeane im Jahr 2016 habe Schätzungen zufolge 9 bis 23 Millionen Tonnen betragen, schreibt das Forscherteam aus Deutschland, Schweden und Norwegen in einem Übersichtsartikel. Eine ähnlich große Menge - 13 bis 25 Millionen Tonnen - sei in dem Jahr in die Umwelt an Land gelangt, heißt es in dem Beitrag, der innerhalb eines Theme ....
