Negotiators for the carmakers and the union are expected to be back at the Bargaining Table Today. For the first time ever, workers are striking at plants for General Motors, ford and stellantis at the same time. The carmakers say despite big profits in recent years, the raises being demanded would drive them out of business. President biden weighing in, saying now is the time for the companies to step up. No one wants a strike. Say it again. No one wants a strike. But i respect workers rights to use their options under the collective bargaining system. I believe they should go further to ensure record corporate profits mean record contracts. Gabe cohen is at a Stellantis Plant in ohio where workers there are striking. Stellantis yesterday. Theyre waiting for a response. Its hard to imagine this is going to be ending any time soon. It certainly doesnt seem within the next 24 hours. Weve heard from a lot of workers who said theyre preparing for this to potentially last for a while. Were outside this stellantis factory. They build jeeps here, more than a thousand a day. If you look down, there are groups of these picketers for a half mile in each direction covering every entrance. There are 5800 workers on strike here in toledo. You can get a sense just being here of the frustrations they have been feeling. I want to bring in one of those workers now. So you were telling me youve worked here ten years. When you heard this strike was going to happen and that this location had been picked, what went through your mind . We start this morning with dangerous conditions brought on by now posttropical cyclone lee. The storm is still maintaining those hurricaneforce winds, and so far warnings remain in place as lee begins to whip the new england coast, bringing heavy rainfall through cape cod and all the way through maine. Though its not expected to reach the u. S. , the outer bands are expected to pack strong winds up to 80 miles an hour and could bring flooding throughout the new england coast. Maine has declared a state of emergency, and authorities are warning people to stay inside and prepare to hunker down for the storm. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect this morning as lee is downgraded from a hurricane to a post Tropical Cyclone. New england starting to feel the impact of the massive storm. Boston logan is experiencing a spike in Flight Cancellations. So far, 25 of flights leaving boston have been cancelled. Thats according to flight awe ware. Lee is not expected to make landfall, but coastal cities can can expect powerful 50 to 60 mile per hour winds from outer bands of the massive storm.
