Up being the real concern. now the storm has slowed down. it has no steering current. it will take the time meandering out of the northeast. so wheeather prediction center determining the threats of flash flooding, they actually have a moderate risk of flash flooding for new jersey, portions of eastern pennsylvania, southern new york, including long island, parts of connecticut, even western massachusetts. a slight risk here where i m standing in rhode island and new port. another 1 to 3 inches of rain on top of what has fallen. i checked some of the local river gauges across the area, there are 12 river gauges across the northeast, mainly in new jersey and southern new york that are reporting minor to moderate flooding. it will be the story going forward. we re trying to restore power here in rhode island. current tally 44,000 customers without power. the concern here, in fact, the rhode island governor mentioned it yesterday in his press conference that the temperatures are going to ....

Hurricane and bring rip currents to the coast of the united states. reporter: right now we are watching the storm itself right over the atlantic ocean. and with it it is certainly bringing in the wave action and of course storm surge a little bit of a concern along the immediate coastline. the good news is the storm itself is what we call a fish storm eventually heading out into the open waters. the concern is if it becomes a hurricane and heading toward bermuda as we head into the mid-week period. here is the news. the steering current with the storm itself going to be more so out to sea. that s the good news for the southeast coast. with that it brings a lot of impact. we have a tropical storm watch up toward flagler and volusia county line. it s still going to bring with ....

Now, richard, when you joined us a couple days ago and you were flying above the storm as well in your gulf stream monitoring dorian, it seemed to be a very come back the and very well defined and very powerful storm. now, as it gets bigger and less organized, is it ease easier or harder to figure out where it s going to go? well, it was a the problem we had a couple days ago is that the steering current that determined the direction of the storm came to a complete halt, so the environment around the storm had nothing to push it forward. now we do have some steering current, unfortunately, they are moving in a clear northwesterly direction. it s not moving very fast. it s moving about 8 miles per hour. but, the bad news is it doesn t have much room left. it s now even with daytona beach and as it continues to ....

It doesn t move at all. it s staying on grand bahama island and the bad part, the strongest winds around the eye wall are the strongst winds and they have been battering the island all day long. this is a dumb question but why does a hurricane just stall over an island? it s squeezed in between two areas of high pressure. there is no steering current for this storm to move. that should change, though, by the time we get into tomorrow. that s when the storm is expected to pick up a little bit of forward speed. now the storm is now located about 100 miles to the east of west palm beach. it s still very, very close to florida and the brush with florida is crucial because depending on how close this storm gets will depend on the impacts that florida will see. you can already see those outer rain bands pushing on shore. when that happens, we ll get heavier rains and stronger winds but the closer this gets to florida is going to determine ....
