JUNEAU Eligible Alaskans would receive a $1,000 Permanent Fund dividend later this year under a proposal approved Tuesday by the Alaska Senate Finance Committee.
That amount could be changed Wednesday when the proposal and the rest of Alaska’s annual budget is heard by the full Alaska Senate.
“I think it might go up,” said Senate Majority Leader Shelley Hughes, R-Palmer.
Other lawmakers, including finance committee members Bert Stedman, R-Sitka and Bill Wielechowski, D-Anchorage, said they don’t know what to expect.
“As a non-binding caucus, Senate Majority members are free to vote their conscience,” said Senate President Peter Micciche, R-Soldotna. ....

JUNEAU Alaska lawmakers don’t yet know how they will spend more than $1 billion in economic aid approved by Congress this spring, but members of the Alaska Senate have finalized a list of possible options.
The list of possibilities includes a potential boost the Permanent Fund dividend, improvements to roads and Internet access, help for local food production, and grants to businesses and tourism efforts.

JUNEAU Alaska is expected to receive $460 million more than previously expected from oil taxes in the next fiscal year, according to a new forecast released this week.
The money “doesn’t bring in more opportunities for additional expenditures or anything like that,” said Sen. Bert Stedman, R-Sitka and co-chairman of the budget-writing Senate Finance Committee, but “it takes a little bit of pressure off” as legislators attempt to balance the state’s need for services and its desire for a large Permanent Fund dividend. ....
