Collapse of a plea negotiation last month and new charges may be on the horizon after attorney general merrick garland granted special counsel status to david weiss. hunter s legal team is saying a trial is not inevitable. byron york, chief political correspondent, and fox news contributor. first of all a general sense, appointment of david weiss or elevation of david weiss to special prosecutor, some people are saying this means the investigation could go in a lot of different directions. some say it gives the doj an excuse to say we are in the middle of an ongoing investigation. we cannot comment when congress wants information. both of those things can be true. certainly the doj is going to say to republicans in congress sorry, we can t talk about it, it s an ongoing investigation, we just can t discuss it. on the other hand, a special counsel weiss could go off in
