Answer. All the opposite side has to do is to stop supporting a bill that would allow the biggest banks in america to rip off the people one more time. We bailed out the richest banks in america with the peoples money. The people do not want that anymore. And so this provision thats in the bill that would allow them to basically put us all at risk because they want to trade these derivatives and be protected with fdic cannot go on. And so there are a lot of other things in this bill thats unacceptable. I am the Ranking Member of the Financial Services committee and i worked on doddfrank. Theyre trying to undermine doddfrank. Theyve been trying to get rid of doddfrank piece by piece. We have to fight it every day. I am not going to let the people down. Democrats are not going to let the people down. Were not going to vote for anything thats going to give the store to the biggest banks in america one more time. The speaker pro tempore the gentleladys time has expired. The gentleman from
Others. We will miss you. Mr. Chairman, i will never forget the day the gentleman from iowa told me earlier this term that had he known that i would one day be on the rules committee, he would have been nicer to me for the last ten years. It was at that point, i appreciated the raw power that came with this appointment. But to the gentleman from texas, i want to thank you for bringing up the i think it was the Case Church Amendment from 1973, the series of amendments ten years later. I mean, sometimes we think about defunding as some sort of exotic thing that people do. It has been a technique that has been employed by both sides of the dais in the past and sometimes it has changed the course of history. J p so i thank youu 2zr for bringing your amendment here today and certainly appreciate the time that all of you have spent with us this evening. Mr. Chairman, ill yield back. Thank you very much. Ms. Bachmann, i want to add my hearty congratulations to you, and about the best thing i
Of the department. Cybersecurity is a complex mission for the department and requires a wide range of talent at all levels. Given the urgent nature of d. H. S. s recoupment recruitment efforts, its essential that department have this strategy in place. Secondly, the bill requires the Department Access the readiness and capabilities of its work force to meet its cybersecurity mission. Lastly, the urgent need to fill Critical National Security Missions often leads to an overreliance on contractors. To encourage students to come to work for the government is a vital in this vital arena, this legislation also directs d. H. S. To develop a plan to create a Cybersecurity Fellowship Program. Under such a program, d. H. S. Would pay Promising Students tuition in exchange for a commitment to serve for a fixed period of time at the department in a cybersecurity position. For all these reasons, i urge my colleagues to vote for h. R. 2952, and i reserve the balance of my time. The speaker pro temp
A month. Why . Because we dreamt like every other american. It was no longer what you could become but what opportunities your children will have. Education has been the great equalizer in this country. And theres no greater place to do that than allowing those that may not have great wealth, but have a great opportunity with their children a 529 account. But like anything, we should modernize it, because education changes just as technology changes. Could you imagine today sending your child to college, but to tell them to learn without having a computer . Isnt that a part of the Education System, too. Well, thats what this 529 account does. Today, when we talk on the floor its really about the future. Its about the future of every Single Family from every walk of life. Mr. Speaker, i differ with the president on many issues, and i would say the majority of this house differs with the president that he would tax every parent or every grand parent who wanted to put away for a Brighter
Different outcome in expecting a different outcome insanity. I believe our system is broken to the extent that its a moral imperative for congress at this point to step up and act. Our students, our parents, our teachers should not have to settle for a failing system. Before congress i worked in the private sector and also had an opportunity to speak excuse me, to work in state government, including the opportunity to serve as the majority leader of the michigan senate. At that time i saw firsthand how much more effective we can be at the state level to use state resources and control where theyre going than to have the federal government come in, step in and use and expect the state to spend it in a certain way. Mr. Bishop this system of topdown, it does not help the stateses, it puts us states, it puts us in a bad position. Had i had the opportunity, i would have come here in support of the cause as well because i believe its the right thing to do. I believe its high time we defend t
