What were teaching our students is that reconstruction was a failure. Either from the left or the right, people are saying its a failure. I thought that was too easy. The most ambitious experience in American History, calling it a failure doesnt seem adequate. Here is what we found is that the opponents of freedom, the opponents of reconstruction fought so long and hard during and after the war that the u. S. Government, the u. S. Army and a small majority of white northern population was empowered, virtuvi virtually forced to destroy the roots of slavery. Without confederate cessation, emancipation was impossible. Without the war, emancipation was politically impossible. Without the violent resistance to the freedom of the people they held as slaves, there would have been no radic ....
The south during the u. S. Civil war, that the winners would want cuba because there had been a lust for taking cuba for decades previously. This had been this effort to make cuba a state of the United States of america. So thats one idea thats sirlating in the circulates in the minds of the rulers in cuba. Another idea thats circulating is they should be in solidarity with their comrades who are slave owners in the south in order to defeat the north. But then again, as i said if the south had won, the south would be after cuba ousting the spanish. But in any case, at the end of the day they decided to open their ports to the Confederate States of america, socalled. But after the defeat of the Confederate States of america there was tremendous pressure on cuba to abolish slavery, and a bloody war e erupted to that ....

Book fair is held. Joining us now on our outdoor set is harvard professor Randall Kennedy, a frequent guest on booktv and on cspan. His most recent book which came out last year which is talking about, for discrimination race, affirmative action, and the law professor kennedy, has a affirmative action been successful in this country . I think its been very successful over the past several decades. It has helped with the desegregation of American Life, particularly in Higher Education and in employment. And i think that it has done a very good job in a variety of ways. It is help to rectify past injustice. It is help to bring into important discussions, people have been excluded and, therefore, enriched or public debate and our learning in various schools. So i think it has been a success.
