Samsung to pay $11 billion inheritance tax by donating art collection

SEOUL, South Korea: The family of Samsung founder Lee Kun-Hee will pay an inheritance tax bill of $11 billion by donating 22,000 works of art.
Among the works of art are those by Picasso and Dali.
Additionally, the Lee family will need to donate hundreds of millions of dollars to medical projects and research, as part of a multi-year plan to inherit both the wealth and corporate power of South Korea s wealthiest businessman.
The Lee family, made up of Lee Kun-Hee s widow and three children, are believed to be facing a bill of $10.8 billion in inheritance taxes, which is more than half of what Lee held in stocks and real estate, according to Samsung. ....

I’m far from an expert on this, but it looks like for every dollar bet, the gross profit (AGR) was about 17 cents, which seems high for sports betting.
The state’s take is 15% of the AGR. So you can debate whether it’s worthwhile. Hardly seems like a progressive policy, and there is addiction potential. For most it’s probably fairly harmless entertainment, but something that should be monitored. ....

Governor's tax policies hitting state Legislature


Over the upcoming week, the state Legislature will take up several of the policies proposed by Gov. Greg Gianforte in his inaugural state budget.
Gianforte, the state’s first Republican executive in 16 years, has dubbed it “Tax Reform Week.” In an interview last Friday, the governor said his goal is to provide “broad-based tax relief to individuals, low-income folks and small business” through incremental changes that he wants to start this session and expand on later in his term.
Business organizations in the state support the proposals from Gianforte, as his plans align with what the groups have long called for. The governor argues things like raising the business equipment tax exemption, dropping the top income tax rate and eliminating the capital gains tax for some entrepreneurs will result in more investment and jobs in the state, overall boosting the economy. Republicans, who hold the majority in the Legislature, have also indicated they back ....
