Posted on Jul 2, 2021 in Latest News, Newsroom
(HONOLULU) – A hand painted, canvass banner, put up on the mauka slopes of Diamond Head crater was successfully removed by a DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources (DOCARE) officer this morning.
Area residents had contacted the media to complain about the “eyesore” that could be seen high on the steep slopes of the crater facing toward the Ala Wai canal.
DOCARE Officer Edward Thompson first scoped out the banner’s location from just off Monsarrat Avenue and then hiked along the rim of the crater before dropping over the edge to search for it.
Reservations, parking fees for tourists going into effect at a Maui state park Waianapanapa State Park (Source: State Website) By HNN Staff | February 13, 2021 at 3:09 PM HST - Updated February 13 at 3:09 PM
HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Reservations for tourists and commercial vehicles will soon be required for entry to Maui’s Waianapanapa State Park.
The DLNR said the new entry system will go into effect on March 1 to control access to the pristine waters and famous black sand beach.
“This balances State Park’s critical need for revenue with the commercial tours paying a fair rate for their use of the park. It enables us to adjust patronage numbers to reduce crowding and impacts on the sensitive resources of the park,” said DLNR Division of State Parks Administrator Curt Cottrell.
