Flashback to the same week 43 years ago when the South African designed and built Ratel became the first wheeled IFV to enter service in the world. The Ratel prototype was first seen in March six years earlier with production starting in 1976. Its baptism of fire came with the second major military operation of the then SA Defence Force (SADF) in Angola â Op Reindeer â the first being Op Savannah. ....

Embattled State-owned Denel will forfeit assets worth over R12 million in terms of a warrant of execution issued in favour of trade union Solidarity. The Centurion headquartered labour organisation took the defence and security conglomerate to the Labour Court last year after attempts to have outstanding salaries and company contributions for, among others, medical aid and pension funds, paid came to naught.
