The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel on Saturday continued to conduct rescue and relief operations in Jakhna village, which was affected after a landslide struck Langa Road near Dehradun on Wednesday, an official said on Saturday. According to the SDRF Uttarakhand Police after a villager fainted a jawan of its force carried the villager on his back to the main road and then transported him to the hospital in an SDRF vehicle.
The shrine was crowded with devotees, offering prayers on an important day of the holy month of Sawan when the tragedy struck at around 7:15 am on August 14
Rescuers on Saturday pulled out two more bodies from the debris of the landslide which swept away three shops in Gaurikund on the way to Kedarnath on August 4, an official said. The death toll in the tragedy has risen to seven while 16 people are still missing, Rudraprayag Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have both launched rescue operations, with personnel failing to find any of the missing people, yet, according to Circle Officer Vimal Rawat.
